どうしてミニチュアが好きなの？ と聞かれたら、「この本のおかげ（もしくは、せい）」とはっきり答えられます。それが上に引用したルーマー・ゴッデンの『人形の家』です。この本にはさまざまな読みどころがあって書きはじめたら終わらないくらいなのですが、引用した部分はアーティザンシップについての会話です。子どものころからこの部分に感銘を受けて、いつか自分もそういったようなものをつくることができたらいいだろうなと思っていました。今日のブログはそんなお話です。
If anyone were to ask me, “Why do you love miniatures?” I can answer without hesitation: “It’s all because of this book.” The book is Rumer Godden’s The Dolls’ House, which I’ve quoted above. There are so many things to discuss in this book that I could go on forever, but the passage I’ve quoted is a conversation about artisanship. This part has deeply impressed me since I was a child, and I always hoped that one day I, too, could create something with that same spirit. And that’s what today’s blog post is about.
IGMA Artisan
International Guild of Miniature Artisans（国際ミニチュア職人協会、くらいの意味です）という組織があって、年に一度ArtisanとFellowという2種類の会員資格認定を行っています。実は今年、Artisanのメンバーシップに応募をしていました。先日めでたく認定を受けたという連絡をいただいたので、応募した作品をご紹介したいと思います。
実はわたしは何か業界団体が認定する資格といったものを持たずにここまでやってきていまして、IGMAのArtisanが初めての肩書きになります。編み物ではなくミニチュアになってしまいましたが、一応認定ジャンルは Needlework / Crochetということで、かぎ針編みのプロとして認めていただきました。
といっても、送る前はなんとなくそわそわしていてそこまできちんとした写真は撮れていないんですよね（そして作品が返ってくるのはもう少し先になります）。でも全部piggiesagogoのオリジナルパターンに基づいているので、みなさんにも同じようなものを編んでいただけます。というわけでそのあたりだけでもご紹介できればと思います！
There is an organization called the International Guild of Miniature Artisans (IGMA), which certifies two types of membership, Artisan and Fellow, once a year. This year, I applied for an Artisan membership. I recently received the happy news that I have been awarded the certification, so I would like to share the pieces I submitted for my application.
Actually, I have worked up to this point without holding any qualifications certified by an industry organization, so IGMA Artisan is my very first professional title. While it is for my work in miniatures, the official certified category is “Needlework / Crochet,” so I have been formally recognized as a crochet professional.
That said, I was a bit anxious before sending them off, so I wasn’t able to take very good photos (and it will be a little while before the pieces are returned). However, they are all based on original piggiesagogo patterns, so you can make similar items for yourselves. With that in mind, I’d like to introduce them to you.
#1 Cropped sweater
さざなみセーターをもとに、50番の絹ミシン糸で編みました。1/12スケール、大人用というよりは若者用です。
襟ぐりの形はさざなみセーターそのままではなく、ミニチュアさざなみドレスと同じような処理をしています。
こちらのパターンは現在イベント会場で手売りしているので、もしご興味がある方がいらっしゃったらお声掛けください。
This was crocheted with a No. 50 silk sewing machine thread, based on the Sazanami Sweater. In the Japanese system, No. 50 is a thread slightly thicker than the standard, roughly equivalent to a 40 wt thread in the US. It is a 1/12 scale piece, sized more for a young person than an adult.
The neckline is not exactly like the Sazanami Sweater; it’s finished in the same way as the Miniature Sazanami Dress.
This pattern is currently available for purchase in person at events, so please let me know if you are interested.
#2 Scallop skirt
これは以前ブログでパターンを公開した松編みのスカートそのままです。ただしミニ丈。
This is the same shell stitch skirt pattern that I have previously shared on the blog, but in a mini length.
#3 Cherry blossom shawl
以前公開したフェンスにからむお花の連続モチーフを少し改良して、ショールにしました。
こちらの編み図は近いうちにブログで人間用のパターンを公開しようと思っています。お花の編み方とかもちょっと変えました（花びらが5枚になっています）ので、楽しみにお待ちくださいね。
人間用は並太、ミニチュアは90番ミシン糸で編んでいます。
I slightly modified a previously released continuous flower motif, “Flower on the fence,” and turned it into a shawl.
I plan to release a human-sized pattern for this on the blog soon. I’ve also changed how the flowers are crocheted a bit (they now have 5 petals), so please look forward to it.
The human-sized version is made with worsted weight yarn, while the miniature is made with No. 90 sewing machine thread. This is a very fine, lightweight thread (approx. 80-100 wt), perfect for delicate miniature work.
#4 Knee-high socks
さざなみソックスのパターンをもとにハイソックスにアレンジしました。
ふくらはぎのところの太さを出すために引き返し編みを使っています。こちらは人間用も同じ理屈で編めると思うので、この冬のうちくらいにやりたいです。やりたいな。言うことによって自分に期限を設けたい……。
ミニチュアは90番ミシン糸で編みました。
I adapted the Sazanami Socks pattern to create knee-high socks.
I used short-row shaping to create the fullness of the calf. I believe the human-sized version can be crocheted using the same logic, so I’m hoping to work on that this winter. By saying it out loud, I’m trying to set a deadline for myself…..
The miniature was crocheted with No. 90 sewing machine thread.
#5 Amigurumi bunny
3月うさぎをそのまま90番ミシン糸で編みました。
極太糸で編んだ30cmの3月うさぎの1/12スケールミニチュアです。つまり高さ2.5cm。後ろに写っているのが30cmのお顔です。
I crocheted the March Hare pattern as-is, using No. 90 sewing machine thread. It is a 1/12 scale miniature of the 30cm March Hare, which is originally crocheted with super bulky yarn. This makes it 2.5cm tall.

ミニチュア工房の助手、レディトルソーのレディに全部身に付けてもらいました。レディのボディはアゾンインターナショナルのピコニーモSです。
I had my miniature studio assistant, LadyTorso, wear all the pieces. Lady’s body is an Azone International Picco Neemo S.
ハイソックスがいい感じにできたのがうれしいポイントでした。
I was particularly pleased with how well the knee-high socks turned out.
ふだんとちょっと違うものだし、これから提出する実物を着せられているとあって少し緊張顔。ショールの花びらの感じとかは寄りで撮影しないとよくわからないですね。今回の衣料品4点はすべて地模様ということで、かぎ針編みならではのおもしろさも出せたのではないかなと思います。
She looks a little tense, as she’s wearing something a bit different and these are the actual items for submission. You can’t really see the detail of the shawl’s petals without a close-up shot. All four clothing items feature a textured stitch pattern, and I feel I was able to showcase the unique appeal of crochet.
