About this pattern

Size inclusive crochet socks pattern with stretchy fabric. Pattern is intended to make size 24.5cm (EU: 38, US: 8, UK: 5.5) but you can adjust the size to your feet with basic calculation. I recommend to read whole pattern through before starting.

This pattern is intended to use as a practice for incoming Sazanami Sweater (Ripple Pull) pattern. If you feel not confident with Ripple stitch or size calculations while working, this pattern will be a good preparation.

This pattern starts with 90 foundation chs to make a sock side. You work Ripple stitch back and forth, side to side and use sl sts to make the fabric to tube. Heels and Toes are attached later.

Wrap yarn ends into fabric while working.

Ripple stitch

Work all sts BLO. The right side gets ripple-like steady pattern. The fabric is very stretchy. You don’t have to block to measure gauge.

Pinwheel stitch

Work every st BLO otherwise mentioned. You use this stitch for heels and toes. The pattern looks like a pinwheel. The fabric is very stretchy. You don’t have to block to measure gauge.

4 rows = 2.2 cm

Pinwheel stitch

5 sc sts = 2 cm

Part 1 (rows – work back and forth)

Work foundation chs: ch 90. You may want shorter or longer length if your feet size is not same as mine: 24.5 cm. I recommend 90 chs for feet between 20 cm to 25 cm, because you can adjust the socks to your size when you make toes. If you change the numbers of roundation chs, be sure to work chs multiple numbers of 5.

1: ch 2, {hdc 5, sl st 5} 9 times ( or length you cast on.) Work every st BLO [90 sts]

2: ch 1, {sl st 5, hdc 5} 9 times. Make sure to work every st BLO [90 sts]

3: ch 1, {sl st 5, hdc 5} 9 times. Make sure to work every st BLO [90 sts]

4: ch 2, {hdc 5, sl st 5} 9 times. Make sure to work every st BLO [90 sts]

5-20 (16 rows): repeat Row1-4 4 times

Now you get a sock width – and if you are not comfortable with the result, add rows. They must be multiple of 8 rows.

Do not cut yarn.

21: ch 2, {hdc 5, sl st 5} 5 times. Work every st BLO. Skip rest of 40 sts [50 sts]

22: ch 1, {sl st 5, hdc 5} 5 times. Make sure to work every st BLO [50 sts]

23: ch 1, {sl st 5, hdc 5} 5 times. Make sure to work every st BLO [50 sts]

24: ch 2, {hdc 5, sl st 5} 5 times. Make sure to work every st BLO [50 sts]

25-40 (16 rows): repeat Row21-24 4 times

If you add rows between Row20 and 21, work rows as same numbers as them.

Fold the fabric with the right side inside. Join 50 chs of foundation 90 chs and Row40 with sl st. Work BLO in Row40.

Leaving a long long tail (about 1.5m,) cut yarn. Place a Marker, do not fasten off.

Part 2 (rows – work back and forth)

Attach yarn in 51th st of Row20.

1: ch 2, {hdc 5, sl st 5} 4 times. Work every st BLO [40 sts]

2: ch 1, {sl st 5, hdc 5} 4 times. Make sure to work every st BLO [40 sts]

3: ch 1, {sl st 5, hdc 5} 4 times. Make sure to work every st BLO [40 sts]

4: ch 2, {hdc 5, sl st 5} 4 times. Make sure to work every st BLO [40 sts]

5-20 (16 rows): repeat Row1-4 4 times

If you add rows between Row20 and 21, work rows as same numbers as them.

Cut yarn and fasten off.

Join Row20 and rest of foundation chs with sl st. Work BLO in Row20. Turn over the fabric to get the right side outside.

Heels

Round

Work sc sts around the slit of Part 1 and 2 edges. Sc 2 in hdc stem and sc 1 between 2 sl sts rows ( it makes 5 sc sts per 4 rows. ) If you worked as same rows number as this pattern, sc sts numbers are 50 totally. Sl st in the 1st sc and don’t cut yarn.

Move to next section if you work 50 sts. Skip the next section if your sc sts numbers are more or less.

Rows (Pinwheel stitch for 50 sc sts)

pinwheel stitch for 50 scs
Row1 is done.

Ch 6. These are going to be foundation chs.

1: ch 1, skip 1 ch, sc 6. Sl st in the same sc st you previously work sl st, then sl st to the next sc st in the Round. Make sure to work every st BLO. Sl sts don’t count as sts in this section [6 sts]

2: sc 5, skip 1. Make sure to work every st BLO [5 sts]

3: ch 1, sc 5, sl st 2 times in sc sts of the Round. Make sure to work every st BLO [5 sts]

4: sc 4, skip 1. Make sure to work every st BLO [4 sts]

5: ch 1, sc 4, sl st 2 times in sc sts of the Round. Make sure to work every st BLO [4 sts]

6: sc 3, skip 1. Make sure to work every st BLO [3 sts]

7: ch 1, sc 3, sl st 2 times in sc sts of the Round. Make sure to work every st BLO [3 sts]

8: sc 2, skip 1. Make sure to work every st BLO [2 sts]

9: ch 1, sc 2, sl st 2 times in sc sts of the Round. Make sure to work every st BLO [2 sts]

9 rows are done.

10: work in both loops of each st in this row. sc 2, sc 1 each in the skipped sc sts in Row7, 5, 3 and 1 [6 sts]

Row10 is done.

11: ch 1, sc 6, sl st 2 times in sc sts of the Round. Make sure to work every st BLO [6 sts]

12-20 (9 rows): repeat Row2-10

21-40 (20 rows): repeat Row11-20 2 times

41-49 (9 rows): repeat Row11-19

50: work in foundation chs and sc sts in previous rows at once to join them. Ch 1, sc 2 in 2 foundation chs and 2 sc, sc 1 each in 1 ch and 1 skipped sc st in Row47, 45, 43 and 41. Do not cut yarn [6 sts]

sc 2 in 2 foundation chs and 2 sc
Row50 is done.

Work 5 sc sts in Row1, 11, 21, 31 and 41. Sl st in the 1st sc. Cut yarn and fasten off. You may want to weave the ends together ( though it is not necessary. )

finished heel

Ignore the next section.

Rows (Pinwheel stitch for more or less than 50 sc sts)

Count your sc sts worked around the slit of Part1 and 2. Divide them by 5. The answer is row numbers you repeat 5 times. In this section, I use 80 sc sts for example:

80 ÷ 5 = 16. You repeat 16 rows 5 times.

Then you need to know how many foundation chs you need. 2 rows before the last row (Row14 and 15) of 16 rows need to have 2 sc sts. sc sts numbers increase 1 per 2 rows. Then you need…

Row15 and 14: 2 sc sts

13 and 12: 3 sc sts

11 and 10: 4 sc sts

9 and 8: 5 sc sts

7 and 6: 6 sc sts

5 and 4: 7 sc sts

3 and 2: 8 sc sts

1 and 16: 9 sc sts

So, you need to work 9 foundation chs.

Go back to previous section. Replace the 1st “ch 6” to your foundation chs numbers, start working. Decrease 1 sc per 2 rows. You always need 2 sl sts BLO in the end of odd rows.

decrease manner is the same regardless foundation chs numbers.

After working 5 repeats, work 5 sc sts in Row1, 11, 21, 31 and 41. Sl st in the 1st sc. Cut yarn and fasten off. You may want to weave the ends together ( though it is not necessary. )

Toes

Basically use same manner as Heels, but foundation chs numbers differ.

Round

Work sc sts around the Edge of Part 1 and 2.
